Bearing Race [technical] - The machined track the balls or rollers run in, cut into the blade, the handle or a hardened steel underlay. See Bearing System. Bearings [technical] - Balls or rollers around the pivot that carry the blade on rolling contact. See Bearing System. Bearing System [technical] - The pivot…
"Osevoy: MRBS" and "osevoy uzel" name the bearing system; translators give "axial". See Bearing System. Overlay [technical] - A piece of material fixed on top of the scale or frame, not recessed. Sergey's customs often carry a carbon fiber overlay on titanium. Overtravel Stop [technical] - See Lock Bar Stabilizer.
Bearing systems
Bearing systems The pivot is the part of a Shirogorov that people argue about, buy for, and misdescribe in listings. Five systems exist, plus the bronze washers that came first. The factory itself names four of them and says which tier gets which; the fifth, MRRBS, is a separate system, not an alias for DRRBS.
The Shirogorov tier ladder
This page sets out the ladder once, with the factory's own bearing tiering as the spine. Authentication guide
Ask for photographs of the open pivot, the inside of the lock side, the clip mounting, the box label and the certificate, and the CD markings where the tier is claimed. Ask how the seller came by the knife and check the answer against the venue history in the price record. A price well under the going range for that…

Service and care FAQ
Drop shut means the blade falls closed under its own weight once the lock is released, the feel most buyers mean by the Shiro action, and the way the serial ball-bearing knives are tuned. Hydraulic means a damped, even travel through the arc, the feel of the roller systems on Custom Division pieces and Sergey…
A single row of balls (SRBS) is good rather than exceptional; the multi-row system (MRBS) is fast and self-centering; roller systems give damped, even travel, which is what hydraulic action means, and more of it as the rows go up. Which system a knife runs mostly follows its tier, with a few named exceptions and…

Bearings and locks by system
It covers what you find under it on each bearing system you will meet at the bench, how to clean, oil and inspect each one, then does the same for the three lock types and the parts every lock shares. For the take-down itself, see Disassembly, reassembly and pivot tuning; for which models carry which system, the…
Choosing your first (or next) Shirogorov
The bearing systems page explains the five systems and what each feels like.
Disassembly, reassembly and pivot tuning
Every part is clean and dry, laid out by side, and the lubricant for your bearing system is at hand: a light knife-pivot oil such as KPL or Nano-Oil 10wt for the ball systems, less oil on roller systems, where a lighter Nano-Oil 5wt is the usual choice. Prepare the races. Check both scales' races for lint, scoring and…
A full teardown is due when a pivot flush no longer clears grit, when the action has gone gritty or uneven, or when the knife has seen salt water or a season of hard carry. This page walks the knife apart and back together and sets the pivot. It assumes you have the factory bits and a driver that takes them,…
How the designs evolved
What each is and how it feels is on the bearing systems page. The frame lock with a replaceable steel insert is the serial standard, on the F95, Hati, NeOn and Quantum. The F3 has been a liner lock since 2011, with a hardened stainless insert, and the 111 uses the same construction, known as the inset lock.

Tools, supplies and preparation
For degreasing and dissolving old oil use 91–99% isopropyl alcohol; the higher the purity, the faster it flashes off and the less residue it leaves on bearings. Cotton swabs reach the lock face and race channels, and lint-free swabs do the same job where a stray fiber would end up in a bearing.
Service and storage
The single-row rollers on Custom Division and Sprint Run knives are loose in the race and easy to lose, so open one only if you are prepared for that; the double- and multi-row roller systems (DRRBS and MRRBS) on full customs are best left assembled. If a knife on one of those has lost its action, send it in rather…

A knife Sergey builds himself: one-off or a handful, no catalog listing, double- or multi-row rollers (DRRBS or MRRBS), the duck foot pivot, and materials that vary piece by piece. K. at Blade Show, is one; the Astrum Nebula, the full custom auctioned at Blade Show Atlanta in June 2025, is another.
