Warranty

What the factory's limited lifetime warranty covers and excludes, how it transfers between owners, and what disassembly changes.

On this page

Shirogorov Brothers Workshop provides a limited lifetime warranty on every knife of its own production. The factory guarantees the absence of manufacturing defects and repairs any defect that arose through the manufacturer’s fault free of charge for the service life of the knife. The authoritative policy text is the factory warranty page: https://www.shirogorov.com/pages/warranty/

What the warranty covers

  • Manufacturing defects in any element of the knife, repaired or replaced free of charge for the service life of the knife. Which remedy applies (repair, replacement of parts, or replacement of the whole knife) is decided by the workshop.
  • The warranty follows the knife, not the first purchaser: it applies regardless of where the knife was bought, including the secondary market.
  • Loss of the Certificate of Authenticity does not remove the knife from warranty; the factory accepts its knives with or without the COA.
  • Owner disassembly and reassembly for maintenance does not void the warranty.
  • Replacement parts are available while the model is in production and for one year after production ends; after that, replacement is done where parts are still available. Warranty repair itself continues for the service life of the knife.

What the warranty excludes

Exclusions are about damage and modification, not ownership:

  • Misuse, incorrect storage conditions, or loads beyond what a cutting tool is designed for. The knives are made for cutting and are not industrial tools.
  • Changes to the design by the owner or a third party: anodizing, third-party bearings, or a change to the factory sharpening angle (41 to 42 degrees).
  • Damage caused during disassembly or reassembly, such as torn screws.
  • Physical wear from use, minor changes in the pattern or structure of a material, and lost components.
  • Loss or damage in transit to or from service; the factory and its dealers do not compensate a knife lost or damaged in shipping.

In excluded cases the factory will still restore the knife as far as possible, but the work is billed to the owner. During warranty or service work the factory does not change the configuration of the knife (no blade in a different steel, no handle anodizing). A knife assembled from parts of several Shirogorov folders may be returned to the sender disassembled.

Operating standards the warranty assumes

Store the knife in a warm, dry place away from prolonged humidity and aggressive environments. Maintain and lubricate it periodically per the factory’s recommendations, and take care when servicing: the knives are built to tight tolerances and improper assembly can break parts and remove the knife from warranty. When sharpening, keep the factory angle.

Making a claim

Contact the factory with a description of the fault and photographs of the damage (contact details are on the Contact the factory page); the factory examines the knife or the photos and decides whether the case is covered. Confirm the current route with the factory before shipping a knife.
